IRTG2403 - Regulatory Genome

Program IRTG2403

Our program provides doctoral students with the educational framework required to perform interdisciplinary research, and place their work in a larger life science context and in the general public’s perception of science. We do not only provide our students with a peer network and practical scientific training, but also offer the opportunity to actively participate in the international scientific community.

OverviewThe IRTG students join researchers from quantitative and life sciences who take an integrated approach to understanding the gene regulatory code and altering its activity. Such interdisciplinary environments provide an excellent basis for scientific collaboration and creative problem solving. The IRTG is tailored to individual student needs through a flexible training curriculum that also ensures professional qualification in key areas.

The program targets highly mobile and motivated doctoral students who will be required to take an active part in two different research groups in Berlin (Germany) and in Durham (USA). Depending on the needs of the individual projects, the students will embed in laboratories at the partner institution for an extended period of time.

For each DFG IRTG-funded students we have defined dissertation projects in each of the three IRTG2403 research areas. Each PhD student is suppervised by a German PI and is supported by a US PI, as well as a well-matched additional faculty for thesis advisory committees. All DFG-funded students will be enrolled at HUB.

With our program we also promote gender equality and a family-friendly work environment.

  • We are partner of the GenderConsulting (CeCo) service.
  • Career experience seminar with senior female scientists.
  • We offer coverage of costs of a professional babysitter outside daycare opening hours /school hours or when the child is sick. (Kidsmobil)
  • We have purchased a Kidsbox that can be borowed.

Please contact the coordinator if you are interested in the kidsbox or need help with child care.
